About Nayarit

FF1flipped 110pixsMuch of Firefighters Crossing Borders efforts have been focused in the southern area of the State of Nayarit.

The first mission was in 2010 in support of the Zachary Chambers Foundations efforts to improve emergency services in the small village of Sayulita, part of the Municipality of Bahia de Banderas.

Later that year, we established an onsite regional representative who had been working with the areas firefighters sense 2008. With support from a newly elected Municipal President and assistance from community groups the Bahia Fire EMS Project has resulted in the opening of new fire stations, improved equipment, and better firefighter training.

Fire departments from other areas in the State have also received training and equipment donations.

Group-photoIn December 2014 a team of 14 FFCB instructors from the US, Canada and Mexico supported the Bahia - Vallarta Scenario Training event in Sayulita, Nayarit.

Our-crew-with-namesThe program provided over 80 area firefighters an opportunity to develop strong team and technical skills through emergency incident scenario training. As well, it provided us an opportunity to evaluate the department's operational performance levels to help focus our future training and equipment efforts for this area.

Firefighters were divided into department specific groups which moved together through a Hazmat, Vertical Rescue, Auto Extrication and a Fire Rescue scenario. The first run through was conducted without coaching from our instructors giving us a good look at current performance levels. Crews were provided feedback and provided additional opportunities to apply the lessons learnt.

FFCB also organized and coordinated a Basic Surf Rescue course for Bahia de Banderas Protection Civil.Running-to-get-in-shape Say

52 new lifeguards were trained and certified by instructors from FFCB, Bahia de Banderas, and Puerto Vallarta.

Thanks to all who helped to make this happen!

Planning is already underway for next year's program.
