About Sinaloa

OneSinaloaFirefighters Crossing Borders initiated it's relationship with the State of Sinaloa in 2006 with the delivery of a 100 foot ladder truck to Bomberos Culiacan. A second training session brought in firefighters from Mazatlan and other neighboring departments leading to the development of the Sinaloa Fire Training Symposium.

Today 80-100 firefighters and officers from every department in the state come to Culiacan each year to attend this annual 3 day symposium. Topics over the years have included fire officer skills development, engine and truck operations, vehicle, water and rope rescue, and more.

Beyond the annual symposium FFCB regional representatives work closely all year with department heads ushering in equipment and vehicles. In 2013 Bomberos Culiacan developed the first warehouse for equipment coming into Mexico from the US and Canada. Equipment is then distributed to departments in need throughout the State of Sinaloa through the non-profit association Bomberos Amigos.

2019 Sinaloa Fire Training Symposium

Eight Firefighters Crossing Borders instructors returned home safely after completing the 11th annual Sinaloa Fire Training Symposium in the state’s capitol city of Culiacan.

This year 13 Fire Departments from the state of Sinaloa participated in the training as well as one fire department from Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico for a total of 90 students.

The three topics of training were Vehicle Extrication, Rope Rescue, and Fire Attack on Liquefied Petroleum Tanks.

This year’s symposium took place February 10th through 13th and would not have been possible without the coordination between our hosts Bomberos Culiacan and Bomberos Amigos IAP. This year’s lineup of instructors included:

• Captain Moi Castellon (South County Fire, L-20)
• Firefighter/Paramedic Edgar Ramirez Tellez (Fon du Lac FD, Wisconsin)
• Paul Spencer (Emergency Vehicle Technician, Orcas Island WA)
• Firefighter Bronco Erickson (South County Fire, L-10)
• Firefighter Joaquin Hubbard (Seattle Fire, L-9)
• Lieutenant Tim Frank (Seattle Fire, L-10)
• Lieutenant John Cameron (Seattle Fire, E-25)
• Captain Neil Young (South County Fire, L-10)

The group of FFCB instructors brought over 300 lbs of rope rescue equipment that they donated as well as a Hi-Lift jack. Firefighters Crossing Borders works with Bomberos Amigos IAP and Bomberos Culiacan along with numerous other jurisdictions throughout Mexico supporting training needs and equipment requests. Equipment and vehicles are donated to our organization from fire departments throughout the United States.
