About Sinaloa

OneSinaloaFirefighters Crossing Borders initiated it's relationship with the State of Sinaloa in 2006 with the delivery of a 100 foot ladder truck to Bomberos Culiacan. A second training session brought in firefighters from Mazatlan and other neighboring departments leading to the development of the Sinaloa Fire Training Symposium.

Today 80-100 firefighters and officers from every department in the state come to Culiacan each year to attend this annual 3 day symposium. Topics over the years have included fire officer skills development, engine and truck operations, vehicle, water and rope rescue, and more.

Beyond the annual symposium FFCB regional representatives work closely all year with department heads ushering in equipment and vehicles. In 2013 Bomberos Culiacan developed the first warehouse for equipment coming into Mexico from the US and Canada. Equipment is then distributed to departments in need throughout the State of Sinaloa through the non-profit association Bomberos Amigos.

Culiacan 2010 - Ambulance and equipment shipped!

on . Posted in Sinaloa

The Type 2 van ambulance donated by the Seattle Fire Buffs Society was shipped this past week loaded with equipment destined for Culiacan, Sinaloa. Included was the first of our Hurst tool sets and power plant which we are distributing to all the agencies we work with that need a new tool.

The equipment sent along with the Ambulance will be placed into service as soon as we can provide the training needed for many of the donated items.

Our 14 person team originally scheduled to head down to Culiacan earlier in February are re-grouping and looking for the next date to travel to our brothers and sisters in the region and provide a well planned symposium.

We reported that we decided to postpone the mission following the information that violence in the region had escalated and our teams safety couldn't be guaranteed to a reasonable level.

We recognize that there will always be some level of security issues when ever traveling outside our country, but like in our profession, we calculate risk and take action to minimize it. We hope to return later in the year or when we feel that conditions change. We will continue to send equipment and look at our other areas of support.

The team assembled pulls instructors from throughout the US as well as Mexico. Our experiences in the several regions we serve in Mexico have allowed us to recruit several very good and motivated instructors and enterpreters.
